Scooter Day

Room 1 loved the new scooter circuit.  The new path is fantastic to get some speed up.  It had a little hill.  Everyone was very good at weaving in and out of other scooter riders.  Both Will and Alfie spent the whole time running!!!!!  They could keep up with the scooters.  Thanks to the student council for organising this for us.

Mini Marathon

We all got a mini marathon t-shirt to wear for the race.  When we arrived at the Events Centre it seemed like a sea of red.  Everyone run extremely well.  Two kilometres is a long way for a six year old to run but Room 1 had no problems with this.  We were awesome.  Everyone tried their best, run the whole way, or as much as they could and finished with a smile.  Alfie was very lucky to win a spot prize.  He got a soft toy and Will's brother Jack got a flash watch.  Room 1 you were very respectful and represented your school with pride.

Training for the Mini Marathon

Room 1 has been busy getting ready for the mini marathon. We are trying to get better at going for long runs.  First two rabbits start.  They have a long head start.

Before the rest of the class starts.

The small dots are Room 1 running around the rugby field, down to Jackson Park, up to the corner of Room 12, touch the fence, back down by Room 12 and back to the 6 year old playground.

Kuirau Park

Last week Room 1 went to Kuirau Park with the rest of the Year 2 team.  Everyone was very excited about doing a scavenger hunt.  We had only just learnt what a QR code was.  There is one at the front of our blog now.  Each team had to find ten QR codes around the park and do the measurement task at each station.  The children used a map to find the QR code station  then scanned the code with an I-pad to find out the instructions of the measurement task.

The playground at Kuirau Park caused great excitement amongst the class and was the highlight of many of the Room 1 children.  We have been writing stories about our trip that will be shared in your child's AFL folder.

Room 1 also noticed a lot of the thermal activity in the park.  We will be learning about Rotorua's Thermal Wonderland next term.

The Dirt Pile

Some children in our class went down to a very dusty place in our playground.  We call it the dirt pile,  At the dirt pile we love to do skids and roll around in the dirt.  The tyres are fun to run and jump over.  We try to run as fast as we can while we are holding hands.
