How Much Is 1,500?

Easy Blog Photo

Today we learnt that a queen bee lays 1,500 eggs a day?  So that made us think.  How much is 1,500?  We used popsicle sticks to show how much 1,500 is.  We grouped the sticks in 10's and then cunted in 100's all the way until 1,500.  We learnt that we had to be careful not to say ten hundred but say one thousand.

Road Safety Puppet Show

Back in Term 2 we watched a Road Safety Puppet Show

Easy Blog Photo
If you break the rules you will get hurt. The rules are: 1. Wear your seatbelt. 2. Never run across the road. 3. When we want to cross the road, use our eyes and ears before we use our feet. 4. Look left, right then left again and cross when the road is clear.

Olympics

Thank you Adrian for filming the Olympic athletes!

The Olympics

On Thursday all of the Year 2's classes went to the hall for there olympics day.  First we lined up in our countries.  There was a lot of noise because everyone was talking.  Next Mr Cunliffe asked New Zealand to walk into the hall so the other countries walked into the hall and went up on the stage waving there flags.  I waved my flag fast.  Then Mrs Woon said "the Year 2 Olympics open."

Mr Cunliffe said that my group was going to throwing.  I scored lots of points.  After that my group went to Judo.  I bet a boy and I felt happy.  Next I went to an obstacle course.  I jumped over lots obstacles.  Then I went to golf.  My ball went into the hoop.  My group got lots of points.  Later my group went to shooting.  I got to the three turns.

Finally we had the medal ceremony.  My team got a gold medal.  I thought the Olympics was great.

Planting A Potato

Wednesday 31st August:
Room 1 has planted a potato in a bucket.  We hope that it grows into a potato plant.  The potato in the bucket needs to be watered and it needs sunlight.  Mrs Jeffery's told us at school assembly that a potato plant takes 90 days to grow.  We looked on our calendar and counted that it would take 3 months so that means our potato should be ready on the first day of December.

This afternoon we got to watch a show called 'Hiwi the Kiwi'. They were funny and very talented at singing and dancing. The Ministrel and his wife want to teach us so we can go home and teach our families all about fish from our ocean. What can you teach your family? The Ministrel has left a flash fishing rod. We have to write stories and someone from Otonga will win this exciting prize. We will work on these tomorrow.

Scruffy our dog!

Scruffy is Room 1's pet.  He is mischievous and is not always doing what he is supposed to be doing. One of Scruffy's favourite things to do is read books and listen to stories.

When Room 1 came back from morning tea we found this letter in Mrs Elvidge's writing book.

Dear Room 1,

I have watched you all work very hard over the last two days.  I think we are going to have a great year.  I have just popped out to find some stories for our class.  I wonder if Mrs Elvidge will let you come and find me?

I will be busy reading one of my favourite authors.  What is one of your favourite books?  Could you please write to me and tell me.

Lots of Love,

Scruffy

Room 1 really wanted to go and find Scruffy.  We found him reading a 'Hairy Maclary' book in the library.
Luckily Mrs Atkinson didn't mind because the library is not open until next week.  Scruffy was really quiet in the library.  We all chose some books and went back to class to start our own letters to Scruffy.
